Review

To enter the crowded Cabo luxury hotel market, Ritz-Carlton pulled out all the stops to create some of the most gorgeous accommodations and robust activity offerings in the area. Nestled in the dunes in a private enclave away from the busy Cabo corridor, Zadún, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve merges modern Mexican artistry with a contemporary coastal design perfectly suited for indoor-outdoor living. Each of its 115 rooms, which are scattered over 20 acres of a former sand dune and range from sea-view and beachfront options with plunge pools and outdoor showers to a 6,000-square-foot Grand Reserve villa with two suites and three additional bedrooms. All come with a dedicated attendant, or tosoani, who acts like a fairy spirit, ensuring that your wishes are catered to—whether a golf cart pick-up at dinner, a last-minute spa treatment or a special round of cocktails on the beach.

The property celebrates its desert and coastal location as well as its Mexican heritage in its minimalist chic design and an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living. The sleek stone and wood rooms, most of which include plunge pools, have plenty of space for relaxing indoors or outdoors: huge glass walls face ocean-view terraces with chaises and bathrooms feature outdoor rock-lined showers. Handwoven textiles on pillows and wallhangings from Oaxaca showcase modern Mexican artisanship, and the works of artists and craftsmen from Campeche, Mexico City and Jalisco appear throughout the public spaces, as well. At the poolside restaurant, El Barrio, a vibrant mural of Frida Kahlo oversees the open kitchen, and the dining entry is enlivened by a bright patch of colorful decorative tiles to evoke a Mexican market. (The menu includes street food favorites like tacos and quesadillas.) In the 30,000-square-foot Spa Alkemi, Mexican healing traditions are on offer, along with cutting-edge beauty treatments like LED light therapy, fitness classes, massages and a fully equipped gym. Among the resort’s four restaurants, all of which feature outdoor and indoor seating areas, Humo, with its emphasis on wood-fire grilled dishes, is a standout. While most guests will likely spend their days between the various pool areas and the wide, white-sand beach, which is just steps from X ceviche bar, activity choices are plentiful. As at the other Ritz-Carlton Reserves, which sit at the very top of the brand’s pyramid, children can take part in the Jacques Cousteau Ambassadors of the Sea program, while their parents can enjoy the minutes-away Greg Norman-Jack Nicklaus 18-hole golf course or charter a boat for deep-sea fishing or whale watching. For anyone spending a Thursday night, don’t miss the weekly art walk in nearby San José del Cabo, when galleries and restaurants stay open late and create a street fair atmosphere.

As was mentionned in the last review of Cabo, Puerto Raiz not opened as of last week, is offering expensive trial lunches, disappointing, site not ready for customers.
Next time in Cabo, suggest you try Acre, near Flora Farm, situated in magnificent groves of tropical trees and delicious food.
