Review

Posada Ayana, a family-run boutique hotel in José Ignacio, offers the epitome of rustic luxury. Surrounded by lush gardens and just moments from the beach, each of the 17 rooms are drenched in natural light, thoughtfully curated and embody the essence of “coastal chic.” Guest rooms have private gardens or ocean views, with floor-to-ceiling windows on at least two sides. The interiors have been crafted to respect the style of the property and its environs: every piece of furniture is sourced locally from Uruguay or Argentina, with the majority being restored or unique vintage pieces from the 1950s and ‘60s from nearby Punta del Este and Montevideo.

The public spaces are equally stunning, including a spacious terrace housing the on-property restaurant (serving farm-to-table cooking). Come for breakfast and enjoy freshly squeezed OJ and the mouth watering green toast. The restaurant overlooks gardens and the ocean, as well as the small infinity pool with multiple sun beds.

Guests can fit in a quick sweat at the small on-site gym (equipped with neon pink exercise weights) or get some work done in the thoughtfully designed library. A one-bed spa area offers treatments on request. Guests interested in exploring the beach or heading into town can use the property's bicycles, beach chairs and umbrellas. Off-property activities include everything from pilates and horse back riding to kitesurfing, polo and more.

Posada Ayana draws those looking for a romantic escape or a tranquil retreat. Especially perfect for art lovers, South America's first freestanding Skyspace installation by James Turrell sits on the property. The sunrise Skyspace session is exclusively offered to in-house guests. For larger groups looking to stay together, there is one villa on property that holds up to 6 people.

Who Should Stay
