Built in 1780, The White Cross is a piece of London history. In the summer months, this iconic public house attracts thirsty punters who flock from across the city to its picturesque riverside location. It sits tantalizingly close to the Thames—so close that when the tide is particularly high, the water comes right up to the pub’s sun-drenched terrace. If it’s busy (which it often is), grab a drink from the bar and settle on the riverbank just beyond. Famous for its stunning sunsets, The White Cross may only be a short distance from central London, but it doesn’t feel like you’re in the city at all. It’s particularly lively on rugby match days.
