A truly romantic venue at night, the Supatra is located right across from the Grand Palace on the Chao Phraya. Don’t be put off by the size of the place, a former private home: there are several cavernous dining rooms on different levels. Request a table by the window and watch the riverboats pass as you dine on Thai delicacies. Compared with other Thai restaurants in the city, the Supatra is not cheap, but the food is delicious and prepared as you request (mild or spicy). This is a good spot to try the staples: green-papaya or spicy-beef salad, green shrimp curry, tom yum goong, and mango with sticky rice for dessert. There’s a free ferry from Maharat Pier, but any riverside hotel, like the Peninsula or the Mandarin Oriental, can organize a transfer.
