In St. Petersburg wave of fusion restaurants, where menus include everything from blini to sushi, it can be trying to find a good spot focused on Russian food. Dom is the winner. It occupies a historic building, and the series of connected dining rooms with vaulted ceilings and original art, are elegant. The menu is full of classics. Some of the dishes are elevated – for example, pelmeni, Russia’s addictive small dumplings, come stuffed with wild elk, deer or goose. But this is also the place for trying chicken Kiev, beef Stroganoff, Borscht and, of course, blini with smoked salmon or caviar. Some dishes come with vodka served in dainty, chilled glasses. Best of all, Dom is in walking distance to the Four Seasons and the Astoria hotels.
