Everything about Blok is a little dramatic, including the location atop the Leningrad Centre, a multi-use art house complex. This is the place to come for meat in all its incarnations (disconcertingly, one of the slick decor’s showpieces is a glass meat locker where huge hunks are displayed). A venture of famed restaurateur Alexander Rappoport, who runs several of Moscow's top eateries, Blok has an excellent menu, including many beautifully prepared non-meat dishes. The name comes from butcher block, though the interior designers also reference the revolutionary poet Aleksandr Blok, who surely would not have approved of the somewhat blinged-out interiors here, with chandeliers and terraces overlooking the St. Petersburg skyline.
