Sister property to Manhattan’s Midtown landmark The Chatwal, The Chatwal Lodge opened April 2022 on 100 acres of preserved land, within the gates of the 2,500-acre Chapin Estate community—a two-hour drive north of the city, in the Catskills. The property provides a serene escape into nature, with views over the Toronto Reservoir Lake and plenty of hiking trails through forests of white pine and chestnut, where explorers can hope to spot nesting bald eagles. With only 11 rustic suites (designed by Steve Dubrovsky using reclaimed wood and all featuring private patios), the atmosphere is intimate; the larger suites have lakeside decks, soaking tubs, outdoor showers and spaces for entertaining. Seven additional suites were added in 2023. Property highlights include a farm-to-table dining program that promotes local products from Chef Jesse Kloskey (who has worked at Michelin-starred restaurants in Napa Valley), and hands-on cooking classes; classic outdoor activities like fly-fishing, boating, kayaking, horseback riding, mountain biking, stargazing, birdwatching, cross-country skiing and golfing; a main lodge with games, billiards, a screening room, a self-serve bar and more; Ayurvedic wellness treatments, yoga and meditation; and wine tastings, which can be hosted in the cozy Chatwal cellar.
