Review

Kisawa Sanctuary is the kind of resort that feels undiscovered, but in the most refined way. The brainchild of businesswoman and heiress Nina Flohr, Kisawa Sanctuary is a luxury eco-resort on the private island of Benguerra Island, which is part of the Bazaruto Archipelago in Mozambique. The privacy, excellent staff and breathtaking beauty of Kisawa speaks for itself.

The property has 11 one-, two- and three-bedroom bungalow-style Residences on 750 acres of forest, beach and sand dunes. Each Residence has spacious living areas, an outdoor terrace with a private plunge pool, a dining area and a kitchen. In keeping with the original craftsmanship of the property, the rooms are outfitted with locally sourced materials and intricate details that tie into the surroundings, such as bathtubs made of smoothed sand. The Residences all come with a butler and have a warm and inviting feel.

While guests might be more than content spending their entire vacation in their Residence, available activities include snorkeling, boat excursions, spa treatments, nature walks and exploring the island with a personal Moke car. There are four restaurants on-property serving different cuisines, including Mediterranean and Mozambican. That said, the chef can whip up any dish at the guest's request and set up a private dining experience nearly anywhere on the island.

As part of the property’s commitment to sustainability, Kisawa Sanctuary incorporates renewable energy sources, water conservation systems, responsible waste management and community engagement.

Who Should Stay

Those who want an unforgettable island vacation, high touch service and an idyllic post-safari add-on

Getting There

A quick helicopter from the Vilankulo Airport is the preferred method of transportation (~15 minutes). There is a boat option (~45 minutes), but the experience can be rough so we would not recommend it.
