Hotel Peter & Paul occupies a restored 19th-century Catholic schoolhouse, church, convent and rectory in New Orleans’s charming Faubourg Marigny neighborhood. Each building has been restored with painstaking detail thanks to design firm ASH NYC and prominent local Nathalie Jordi, and the result is an elegant and stylish take on old New Orleans.

The buildings—all of which are named after their former use—feature a slightly different color palette and aesthetic, but the School House is where the bulk of the rooms are, each of which is individually appointed. The Rectory houses five rooms (including one two-bedroom suite) that have cardinal red canopied beds and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a fern-lined courtyard. The Convent, on the far end of the property, is the most secluded, with blue gingham-patterned fabrics and holy adornments that speak to the building’s past.

Despite the old-world ambiance, Hotel Peter & Paul is by no means stuck in the past. Modern perks like complementary Wi-Fi and flat-screen televisions are integrated into the design so as to not detract from the overall experience. Locally-sourced snacks are a nice touch and communal spaces including a bar, sun room, courtyard and several lounges encourage visitors to make themselves at home. The Elysian Bar serves food during the day and evening, but the hotel is also situated a few blocks away from the restaurant-rich French Quarter and the lively cafés and bars on Frenchman Street, a sort of grown-up alternative to Bourbon Street.

Who Should Stay

Couples and history buffs who want to experience an authentic piece of New Orleans and value well-designed hotels will love Hotel Peter & Paul.
