Review

Hotel Amigo, manages to be discreet and quiet despite its location in the center of the city’s action. Tucked into a corner one block from the Belgium capital’s bustling Grand Place, the Amigo is a comfortable, high-touch and homey property for luxury travelers to Belgium. The service, as befits a Rocco Forte hotel, is top-notch without feeling overbearing.

Spread across six floors, rooms are decorated in a classic and elegant style, showcasing elements of contemporary Belgian art and design. Some look out directly over the Cathedral and have small terraces and balconies from which to enjoy the view. The bathrooms are stocked with divinely scented Irene Forte products. The entry level rooms are cozy and small, while more space is allotted to the higher category suites. The standout is the Tintin suite, adorned with art, books and prints—including a drawing signed by Steven Spielberg when he stayed at Hotel Amigo during the Tintin film launch—all hand-picked by Moulinsart, the Hergé foundation. It is also worth noting their newest signature suite, the DVF suite, which honors the 50th anniversary of the Belgian-American fashion designer’s iconic “wrap dress.” The suite has a bold zebra rug, silk scarves by Andy Warhol and striking artwork.

The hotel lobby is quiet with little grandeur, though the adjacent Bar Magritte will open November 2023, what would have been Rene Magritte’s 125th birthday. The hotel is also home to fine dining Italian restaurant, Ristorante BoCConi.
