  • Alto, the casual rooftop pool and bar overlooking the city
  • The buzzy Josephine Estelle restaurant that serves Italian dishes with a Southern twist

The Ace Hotel is a new boutique property that perhaps reflects the spunk and diversity of New Orleans better than any of the classic hotels in the city. With a relaxed atmosphere, the hotel’s inviting common spaces draw a creative crew of locals and guests. The lobby features double-height windows framed by dark curtains, studded leather sofas and polished coffee tables, creating spaces perfect for enjoying the hotel’s whimsical cocktails. The interiors were designed by New York based firm Roman and Williams, who are renowned for their proliferation of millennial-friendly spaces that employ reused materials.

The rooms and suites evoke a distinctly masculine, hipster vibe with a muted color palette, spare furniture and rocker touches such as a guitar propped in the corner and music crackling from record players. While the rooms are eclectic and residential in feel, some of the details verge on the bizarre, like the velvet curtain that cordons off the bathroom and the vividly painted wardrobes.

The hotel’s flagship restaurant, **Josephine Estelle,**serves up Southern-inspired Italian cuisine inside the bright, airy dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows, an open kitchen and sleek bar. For a quick refuel, patrons can also grab a coffee at the outpost of Oregon-based Stumptown Coffee Roasters or sample locally sourced oysters and fresh seafood at the hotel’s oyster bar, Seaworthy. Rooftop pool bar Altois a hot spot for locals and guests alike who congregate for grill staples and libations around the pool while a DJ spins. The hotel caters to late-night revelers with 24-hour room service, nightly entertainment and a gym that never closes.

Who Should Stay

Young couples or groups of friends looking for a buzzy, fun atmosphere with a retro style and don’t mind being a bit removed from the French Quarter.
