Aspen

Courtesy of Amen Wardy
Years ago, before Aspen hit its stride as the country’s chicest ski-resort town, the shopping options were limited to chunky turquoise jewelry, Justin cowboy boots, and embroidered Western wear that looked fabulous in the mountains but somehow didn’t translate to the streets of New York or L.A. How times have changed. These days shopping has practically overtaken skiing as Aspen’s most popular pastime. There’s no shortage of luxury brands; the historic Brand Building (205 S. Galena St.; 970-920-1800), home to the members-only Caribou Club, has become the go-to source for labels and logos (Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and J. Mendel, among others, are all here). The sleek Prada store is just across the street, and an enormous Polo Ralph Lauren is located a block from the Silver Queen gondola. But I prefer the smaller boutiques for their stylish and unusual selection.
