Aspen

Aspen offers an almost paralyzing number of outdoor recreation options year-round – little wonder, since the town not only lies at the center of thousands of miles of wilderness but is surrounded on three sides by 14,000-foot mountains complete with white-water rivers and streams and, of course, fantastic skiing. Hiking and biking are the two favorite summer pastimes, but you can also golf, fish, paraglide, white-water raft, horseback ride or rock climb. During the winter, downhill and cross-country skiing, sledding, hiking, ice climbing and snowshoeing are the rage. Cultural events, such as the Aspen Music Festival and Aspen Ideas Festival, attract luminaries every summer.
