Washington, D.C.

Courtesy of Jaleo
When it comes to food, Washington D.C. is certainly no New York City, but over the years it has become enough of a serious food town to impress even the most jaded gastronome. There truly is something for everyone here: first-rate special-occasion restaurants (Minibar, Plume, Equinox); hip joints like Little Serow run by hipsters who don’t take reservations or even have a phone, yet still live up to the hype; noisy, crowded hotspots that are helmed by star-in-the-making chefs; excellent ethnic choices such as Rasika for high-end Indian fare; and kid-safe places like The Majestic that also more than satisfy the adults who are paying. Best of all, no one takes himself too seriously. Several of the city’s top restaurateurs now also have more-casual eateries, like Michel Richard’s Central and Robert Wiedmaier’s Brasserie Beck, that dispense with pretension to deliver flavor and fun.
