Arriving at Habitas AlUla is quite similar to what one might expect when landing on Mars: suddenly, out of vast hills of golden-amber sands, you find yourself encircled by imposing marbled rock canyons—and into this surreal landscape winds a long, paved road from which a quiet settlement of tented villas blooms. Centered in sustainability and inspired by local craftsmanship and bohemian luxury, the over-sand villas feature simple yet chic Bedouin-style trappings and a design that encourages immersion in the spectacular surroundings (including a large, private outdoor lounge and outdoor shower). Property highlights include the serene wellness, spa and yoga center; rotating installations of contemporary and interactive art; the infinity pool and lounge (which has unbeatable views); and the fresh, inventive restaurant, Tama, which means ‘here and now’ in Aramaic.
The Standout: Vast stretches of sand dunes at the doorsteps of every suite
Don’t Miss: A trip to UNESCO site Hegra, just a thirty-minute drive away

Habitas AlUla Review
An approximately 25-minute drive from the AlUla airport through the desert, Habitas AlUla is a luxe tented camp that prioritizes sustainability amidst a dramatic desert setting, with dreamscape rock formations surrounding the property—and vast stretches of empty sand dunes at the doorstep of each spacious suite. The aesthetic is contemporary-chic-meets-Bedouin-tradition, with a hint of Tulum-like barefoot glamour—a nod to the place where the Habitas brand first launched (it also has outposts in the Hudson Valley, Namibia and San Miguel de Allende).
On-property highlights include stargazing through the private telescope on your own over-sand deck, a treatment or yoga class at the serene Thuraya wellness center (where local incenses create a soothing and enchanting atmosphere), searching for the contemporary art installations that are hidden around the property (don’t miss the cobalt-blue goddess or glowing trampolines) and snapping shots by the seriously Instagram-friendly infinity pool, which sits at the top of a hill overlooking the property and shares a space with the restaurant/lounge, Tama, where mocktails, fresh pita and creative hummus blends are the items to order.
Who Should Stay
Couples, friends and families with mature children who appreciate a breezy and earthy-stylish atmosphere, spacious and private accommodations (with private outdoor spaces) and the spectacular desert setting—and who do not mind a more hands-off approach to service, eco-friendly amenities and the spread-out nature of the resort (a golf cart is required to travel between the concierge lodge, the villas and the restaurant and pool space, unless you are comfortable with long, at times over-sand walks).
