ChocoCafe
Ideal for breakfast, this café offers an unlimited buffet in a delightfully sunny courtyard. Habitués go with a combination of traditional Nicaraguan breakfast and also the chocolate-themed pancakes.
El Bar
Many guests of the Hotel Plaza Colon as well as day-trippers stop in at El Bar for a pre- or post- dinner drink on Parque Centrale and watch the city pass before you.
El Zaguan
Walking through the door of this courtyard restaurant, which is directly behind Granada’s famous yellow cathedral, you will see locals, ex-pats and visitors sitting side-by-side enjoying the grilled steaks and other local specialties. The menu, a carnivore’s dream, is printed on a miniaturized wooden version of the restaurant’s heavy wooden door. English-speaking waiters are more than happy to help you decide on a steak. There are also great chicken kebabs, tortilla soup and shrimp and ceviche dishes on the menu.
Las Colinas del Sur
Slightly off the beaten path, this restaurant is a must for the fried guapote – a large fish native to freshwater habitats in Central America – by some considered to be the best fish dish in Nicaragua. Don’t let the packed dirt floor and thatched roof turn you off – this beloved seafood restaurant is a classic. Do as the locals do and order yourself a bottle of Flor de Caña rum. Indagare Tip: Take a cab, especially before or after dinner – this part of town can feel a little shady in the dark.
Pan de Vida
For a light breakfast or afternoon snack, visit this low-key, charming artisan bakery. Opened by Canadian-Venezuelan couple Julio and Andrea in early 2014, after the success of its first location in San Juan del Sur, this bakery has a lot more to offer than its delicious baked goods made fresh daily in a brick oven. Tourists and locals alike stop by for a chat with the friendly couple who make the place feel just like home. Try the chocolate crumb cake or indulge in a fresh cinnamon bun. The bakery is open Wednesday through Sunday.
Tranvia
This hotel courtyard restaurant glitters with twinkling lights and provides an ideal spot to rest after a dusty day of sightseeing. The gazpacho is delicious.
