Day Trip: Isle of Skye

Isle of Skye

A remote island in northwest Scotland, Skye is best known for its rugged and majestic landscapes, medieval castles and picturesque villages. It is connected to the mainland via bridge, and while day trips are possible to Skye from Inverness or Fort William, travelers could also easily spend two to three days exploring the sites. Skye is home to vast desolate landscapes from windswept valleys to craggy mountain peaks and dramatic coastal cliffs, and the sites to see are spread out across the surprisingly large island. As such, a car is necessary to get around; we recommend renting a car but for those who prefer not to, drivers must be booked well in advance.

Activities on the island include hiking, biking, climbing, kayaking and fishing, and among the many natural wonders and sites to see are Dunvegan Castle, Neist Point and Talisker Distillery. Skye also has some of Scotlands finest destination restaurants, including The Three Chimney’s, Edinbane Lodge and Loch Bay.
