Featuring over-the-top, eclectic décor—think deep green walls, antique furnishings and accents like mushrooms in glass containers and a stuffed peacock mounted on one wall—Lion Noir feels more like Paris’ acclaimed taxidermy shop Deyrolle than one of Amsterdam’s most upscale restaurants. And yet, the French, fine-dining restaurant is beloved for its relaxed, supper-club atmosphere and refined cuisine; meals here start with oysters or caviar, which are followed by such dishes as Dutch white asparagus with mushroom and truffle tortellini with a poached egg. The beautiful, bourgeoisie-style dining room is great for enjoying cocktails (particularly when the fireplace is roaring), but Lion Noir’s alfresco terrace is where you want to dine when the weather is nice.
