Villa Medicea di Poggio a Caiano

This Renaissance villa of the Medici is sited on the hillside overlooking the city of Florence. It is a magnificent example of a fifteenth-century villa where the landscape and architecture are as one. A series of terraced steps down the side of the hill are connected by gardens, pathways and stairs. Various views of the city of Florence and surrounding countryside are unveiled along this informal walk. The entrance is inconspicuous; it is a side door on the street side of a walled garden.
