Celebrating French Impressionism
Following the success of her highly in-demand trips to France (2022) and Spain (2023), superstar art historian Page Knox is leading this art-focused trip exclusively for Indagare in Spring 2024. Knox, along with horticulturalist and expert guide Amy Kupec Larue, will escort guests on visits to Montmartre and Saint-Germain-des-Prés, neighborhoods that were important in the lives and work of such artists as Pissarro, Renoir, Degas, Morisot and Cezanne. The journey will also include day trips to locations iconic in the development and history of Impressionism, such as the River Seine’s Île de la Grand Jatte, the gardens of Giverny, where Monet grew and painted his water lilies, and the village of Auvers sur Oise, where Van Gogh lived and is buried. The trip will conclude with a private tour of the Musée d’Orsay’s new exhibition “Paris 1874: Inventing Impressionism.”
A spot on this trip may be reserved with a 50 percent non-refundable deposit.
What to Expect
Highlights and special experiences:
Spend time in the settings that inspired some of art history’s most famous and significant paintings, including Seurat’s A Sunday on La Grande Jatte, Renoir’s Luncheon of the Boating Party, Cezanne’s The Hanged Man’s House (which the artist presented at the inaugural Impressionism exhibition) and Van Gogh’s Daubigny’s Garden, likely the painter’s last work.
Private tours of lesser-known institutions such as landscape painter Charles-Francois Daubigny’s house and workshop, where Corot, Daumier and other artists often gathered, and the Marmottan Museum, whose collection of Monets numbers more than 300 works.
After-hours tour of “Paris 1874: Inventing Impressionism” followed by a special gala dinner at the Musée d’Orsay. Curated specially for the anniversary, the exhibition celebrates 150 years of Impressionism with key works that are often hidden away in the archives. Join the festive gala dinner celebrating the show held in partnership with the American Friends of the Orsay and Orangerie Museums.
