Cartagena

Courtesy of Lux Visual Studio
Thanks to its geographical location, Cartagena is blessed with abundant tropical fruits and fresh fish and cuisine here, wherever you find it, is often a fusion of Caribbean, Mediterranean and International influences. Elaborately costumed women sell cups of sliced fresh tropical fruit on the street (buying a cup also earns you the right to take their photo) and ceviche and carpaccio are on most menus along with grilled catch of the day, which is often served with delicious coconut rice and fried plantains. As the city has grown in popularity with sophisticated travelers, a slew of modern restaurants have opened headed by innovative chefs and mixologists, among them: Vera, DonJuan Cartagena, La Perla, and Demente Tapas Bar. Classic and still outstanding haunts like La Vitrola and Anthony Bourdain pick La Cevicheria are not to be missed either.
