Easter Island

Easter Island is not known for its cuisine – stop in Lima or Santiago to sample the current South American food trends – so stick to simple dishes while on island. Order tuna, empanadas and sweet potato and taro side dishes and be sure to load up on the deliciously sweet local pineapple at breakfast. Pisco sours, made from a Chilean brandy (pisco) mixed with lime juice and sugar, is the drink of choice in Chile and Easter Island. The liquor’s name comes from the aboriginal word pisquo, meaning ‘flying bird,’ which is how one feels after having one too many of the tart but sweet cocktails.
