Fortaleza de San Carlos de La Cabana

Arret de Los Cocos, La Habana, Cuba

Built in the 18th century after the British returned control of Havana to Spain in exchange for Florida, this fort was once the most advanced military defense structure in the world.(It was Spain’s base in Havana and later held by independent Cuba.) Today, La Cabana has been converted into a museum where visitors can explore the island's military past. The massive complex is positioned over the water and offers incredible views the city. Stop in the cigar shop to see the world’s largest rolled cigar, and don’t miss the evening cañonazo ceremony where actors dressed in 18th-century military regalia fire the cannon over the harbor.
