Haji Lane
For a hipper, younger and more unique setting, head to Haji Lane, a tiny street in the Kampong Glam (Arab) neighborhood, which holds cute, independent fashion and accessories boutiques . Don’t miss the eco-friendly fashion of Zhai (No. 82). For an incredible assortment of essential and perfumed oils, as well as pretty soaps and lotions, walk to neighboring Arab Street and visit Sifr Aromatics (No. 42). Then break for a coffee or cocktail at Bar Stories.
Orchard Road
Singapore is mall culture at its most outrageous. The Ion Orchard Mall, for example, features eight floors, 400 stores (a standout is In Good Company, a ready-to-wear Singaporean brand), perfumed air and dozens of restaurants.
Raffles Hotel Shopping Arcade
For one-stop shopping that’s high-end but more special and edited than the supermalls, spend some time here. There are dozens of shops and restaurants on two levels of this historic property, and among the best are Lotus Arts de Vivre (a Thai family-run jewelry company with gorgeous evening bags, jewelry and objects), Bin House (an Indonesian fashion house), Laichan for stylish traditional Asian clothing à la Shanghai Tang and Front Row, a sleek modern fashion emporium. Raffles – one of the grandest hotels in all of Asia – has a signature boutique with memorabilia and interesting local finds that’s also worth browsing.
