New Nonstop Flights From the U.S. to Inspire 2027 Travel Planning

It's everyone's dreaded air travel scenario: Your seat belt is buckled, the cabin door is closed, your phone is in airplane mode—and then you hear the pilot's voice crackle over the PA system. There's a delay. If you have a connection, the mental math (and anxiety) begins: calculating buffers, constant checking of time tables, crossing fingers.

That's why we love planning trips that allow for a nonstop flight—it's a (hopefully) seamless, straight shot from your home airport to the start of your escape. (And fingers crossed, with your checked bags arriving safe and sound.)

With airlines unveiling an ambitious slate of new routes servicing the U.S. in 2027—including first-ever connections, revived favorites and access to once-remote destinations—much of the world suddenly feels closer, with more skylines and coastlines within easy reach. Many of these routes are possible thanks to the new long-range, single-aisle Airbus A321XLR aircraft (which American Airlines debuted last year), but United Airlines wins bragging rights with its largest-ever international expansion—on deck are nine new destinations and 11 new routes.

From dreamy Mediterranean islands to one of Europe's smallest countries and a must-visit Blue Zone in Japan, these are the places that new nonstop flights from the U.S. can inspire you to travel to next.

Beginning next year, United Airlines kicks off its European expansion with new routes ranging from Ibiza to Luxembourg and Milan. New York gains the most access with flights from Newark to Catania, Sicily and Olbia, Sardinia and sun-soaked Spanish destinations like Ibiza and Valencia. The expansion also includes nonstop services to Luxembourg, Ljubljana (its first nonstop in nearly four decades), Marseille and Terceira Island, Portugal taking flight from March through June. All will operate through the fall except Luxembourg, which is a year-round service.

United will be the only U.S. carrier offering nonstop service to these destinations, making these charming historical cities and summer hotspots more accessible than ever.

Just in time for summer on the Riviera, American Airlines is adding Nice, France to its nonstop roster starting May 6, 2027. Plus, additional daily flights to Amsterdam will be added in March.

On our radar: Qantas will launch its landmark non-stop Project Sunrise flights between Sydney and New York (JFK) in mid-2028, with ticket sales beginning in August 2027. The flight time clocks in at an impressive—and somewhat daunting—18 hours. However, the onboard experience will include lower seat density for extra space, free Wi-Fi, a dedicated well-being zone for guided movement and stretching, along with jet lag mitigation systems like custom circadian-rhythm cabin lighting.

Washington gains two new routes to Toulouse, France (April 2027) and Milan, Italy (May 2027) from United. The former is both a gateway to the Pyrenees Mountains and an aerospace hub for Airbus that manufactures the A321XLR flying the new route. These are both the only nonstop options from the D.C. region to these respective cities.

Beginning in March and May, American Airlines will launch nonstop service from Philadelphia to Porto, Reykjavík and Vienna. All three destinations will have daily flights on an A321XLR through the summer—with Vienna flights continuing through the holiday season until January 2028. (This is a great starting point for a European Christmas market adventure.)

For the first time since 2019, American's map expands from Charlotte with a new daily flight to Barcelona (beginning May 27, 2027). Plus, seasonal service to Paris will begin earlier—in March, rather than the previous summer start—to meet early high-season demand.

The star of Delta's European summer is its first-ever nonstop from Austin to Paris. The Texas capital, known for its live music scene and BBQ, is a fast growing city for the airline—and one with limited options to Europe. Delta's new nonstop flights will operate daily beginning March 27, 2027 and will continue through the fall on one of the airline's Airbus A330-900 aircraft.

Southwest Airlines is beefing up the tropical offerings for Austinites with nonstop weekend flights to Liberia/Guancaste, Costa Rica; Nassau, Bahamas and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, all beginning on June 5, 2027. (A Saturday-only service to San Jose, Costa Rica begins March 13, 2027—perfect for spring break.)

For summer 2027, Delta is resuming nonstop service from Atlanta to Athens, which hasn't flown since 2011. Another revived route for Delta is the nonstop between Atlanta and Tel Aviv, which resumes in December 2026.

Also to Note: The Kingdom is calling—Delta will launch new nonstop service between Atlanta and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in March 2027. This is the first nonstop service between the U.S. and Riyadh operated by a U.S. airline.

United is expanding its offering to the City of Light with new flights from The Mile High City. The Paris service will operate daily from May 27, 2027 through the fall.

The delicious street food and neon lights of Osaka, Japan just got easier to reach with United's new nonstop from LAX to Osaka, launching in March 2027. (Just in time for cherry blossom season.)

Another Asian escape, Delta is introducing its first-ever nonstop flight between Los Angeles and Manila, Philippines. Taking off March 28, 2027, Delta will become the only U.S. carrier to offer nonstop service between the cities. (Delta is also angling to become Los Angeles' top airline with both domestic and international nonstop routes to Palm Beach, Monterey, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Auckland and Hong Kong.)

More on the Land of the Rising Sun: United's first nonstop from San Francisco to Okinawa begins service in March 2027, easily connecting Northern California travelers with Japan's tropical Blue Zone. (United will be the only North American carrier providing direct, nonstop service to the Ryukyu Island chain, allowing travelers to skip connections in Tokyo or Seoul.) Skiers, rejoice! United is also launching a new San Francisco-Sapporo route this winter. Starting December 11, 2026, the slopes of Niseko—and that world-class Japow—will be even easier to reach as the mountain region is just two hours from Sapporo.

Alaska Airlines' is making good on its promise to add at least 10 new intercontinental destinations from its Seattle base by the end of the decade. Athens and Paris join the list in 2027 with new flights on the airline's plush Boeing 787 aircraft (some of which will sport new business class suites and premium economy seats). Both routes will operate May through October. These new additions bring Alaska's European network to five cities: Athens, London, Paris, Rome and Reykjavik.

Delta's new daily flight from Seattle to Tokyo-Narita will launch on May 27, 2027, complementing their existing Haneda service.

The Windy City will now be connected to Tokyo-Narita with a daily, year-round service on American, beginning May 27, 2027. This marks American's return to this direct transpacific connection after a seven-year hiatus, operating with partner Japan Airlines. Following its successful STL-London launch in April 2026, British Airways is ramping up its transatlantic capacity for Summer 2027. While 2026 saw four flights per week for this route, full daily service runs from April 19 through June 28, 2027 and again from September 6 through October 30, 2027. (Five flights per week will operate during the months of July and August.)
