Indagare member J.O. recently returned from a trip to Cambodia with her husband and two friends. Here are her impressions from the trip.
We stayed at the Amansara in Siem Reap, which was fantastic. The food was spectacular and I cannot emphasize enough how excellent the service was. I had two massages at the on-site spa and both were exceptional.
Our guide was very likeable and knowledgeable, although there was some trouble communicating as his English was not excellent. Overall, he was great, and Siem Reap as a destination is unbeatable. Angkor Wat was by far the highlight of our trip; viewing the sunrise from the top level of the complex was an extraordinary privilege and a truly magical experience. Another high point was our helicopter ride over the city, which gives an entirely different perspective of the temples. We took a half-day trip to Tonle Sap Lake and heronry, which we loved and would definitely recommend to any bird enthusiasts. While it was difficult to understand our guide, we were given pamphlets of the most common birds, which was helpful.
In terms of dining, our meal at Cusine Wat Danmak was absolutely fantastic and the best dinner of the whole trip. I would strongly recommend this experience to anyone.
In summary, Siem Reap is a spectacular destination and one of my lifetime favorites. The Amansara is amazing and I wish we could have stayed longer. We absolutely loved Cambodia and are keen to return. Thank you for all your help. It definitely made a big difference.
