Reims
The Champagne capital is easily reached by train from the Gare de l’Est. You can tour the vineyards (most by appointment only) of the famous Champagne region, including Veuve Clicquot. The cathedral of Reims is a Gothic stunner with an impressive history (numerous French monarchs were officially crowned), height and art works (including stained glass windows by Marc Chagall). The restaurant Le Parc Les Crayères has two Michelin stars and lavish interiors. Surprisingly there are no wonderful country hotels in Reims, so it's best to make this a day trip.
