Indagare Loves

  • The prime location directly across the street from Goose Rocks Beach, one of the best beaches in the area
  • The Jonathan Adler decorated Oceanfront Suites
  • The property’s front lawn where lunch and afternoon drinks are served until after sundown

Located on the quiet shores of Goose Rocks Beach, the owners of Hidden Pond, just a 5-minute drive away, have transformed the Tides Inn, an aging Victorian home, into a hip hideaway and rechristened it the Tides Beach Club. Despite its enviable spot directly opposite the three-mile stretch of sandy beach, however, the Tides is less a place for families building sand castles and more suited for couples on a romantic escape.

The 21 guest rooms and suites (including two decorated by hip New York-based interior designer Jonathan Adler) blend the contemporary with the traditional, mixing serene sea-colored walls with funky sea coral lamps, traditional arm chairs with platform beds and in one suite, refurbished wicker chairs painted a poppy grass green. Every room includes a flatscreen TV, wireless internet and plush bathrobes as well as modern marble and chrome bathrooms. Downstairs, the open lobby and restaurant seating blend together, and both guests and locals shift between sides, moving from drinks and appetizers in the lounge to a more formal sit-down dinner on the restaurant side. Coastal-inspired details such as sea-shell shaped cocktail tables and reclaimed driftwood banquettes complement the modern leather-upholstered bar and create a cool, beachy vibe that would work as well in Montauk as in Maine.

Guests of Hidden Pond, the more family-friendly of the sister properties, have access to the Tides’ services, including beach chairs and towels as well as a cooler to pack snacks and drinks and lunch delivered to the beach from the Tides restaurant. Tides guests can also pop over to Hidden Pond for a swim, a spa treatment or an evening bonfire. But for those sleeping at Goose Rocks, the splurge to a sea-facing room is worth the bill, both in good weather and in foul. The views across to Timber Island and Eastern Goose Rock, both just off the coast, are as charming in the heat of July as when the grey of the early winter sets in.
