At a Glance

Located in the town of Koratu, about a 40-minute drive from the Ngorongoro Crater, family-owned Gibb’s Farm is a tranquil, intimate countryside retreat for couples and families alike.

Indagare Loves

  • The open kitchen with bread-making lessons in the morning and cookie-making lessons in the evening.
  • The views out over the farm from the many terraces and front lawn.
  • The working farm, which allows guests to help feed pigs, milk cows and forage in the garden.

Originally a privately-owned farm built in 1929, Gibb’s Farm opened to guests in 1972. Located in the town of Koratu, which is roughly a 40-minute drive from the gate of Ngorongoro Crater, Gibbs Farm is an excellent base for families and couples who would like to access the crater, but do not require the views or proximity to it. The property is open year round and accepts children of all ages.

Gibbs's Farm creates an atmosphere that is cozy, comfortable and relaxing. There are 21 rooms that range from double-bedded rooms to two-bedroom family suites. The cottages are decorated in a simple, farmhouse-style décor with white-washed walls, wooden beam ceilings, indoor/outdoor showers and lots of natural light through sliding glass doors.

The main draw of the area is to visit the nearby Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the natural wonders of the world, but the onsite activities are really what make Gibb’s Farm stand out. Guests can participate in activities such as bread-making lessons, cookie-making lessons, paper-making and painting with the artist in residence and bike riding through the coffee estate. Since the property is a working farm, guests may also help with milking the cows, feeding the pigs and roasting coffee. We recommend spending two nights here on the front end of your trip with one day to visit the crater and another to experience the activities on property.

Who Should Stay

Families with younger children who can take advantage of the incredible array of activities offered on property and the farm, as well as couples who don’t mind being a drive away from the Crater. Those who would prefer views over the Crater should consider either the opulent Ngorongoro Crater Lodge or Entamanu for a contemporary, tented experience.
