The Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, opened in 1834, was Geneva’s first hotel and has remained a city landmark (fun fact: one of its ballrooms hosted the League of Nations back in 1917). Pierre-Yves Rochon, the interior decorator responsible for the Four Seasons George V in Paris, captured the spirit of the city by implementing colors and textiles inspired by the lake and surrounding countryside. The resulting rooms are elegant and comfortable, perfect for families and couples alike, with a design that captures the history of the iconic building.

The 6th-floor loft rooms and suites were renovated in 2013 and provide a more modern décor than the other rooms, which might appeal to younger clientele. The luxurious, oversized bathrooms are stunning and include a large vanity, European soaking tub and rain shower with a private hammam. It’s important to note that depending on the location, some of the lofted rooms have smaller windows than others.

The hotel’s Spa Mont Blanc sets a new level of luxury in Geneva. The interior, which fuses a rustic ski chalet aesthetic with modern Swiss design, makes one never want to leave. Hotel guests can relax in the hammam or steam shower, or get some light exercise at the indoor infinity pool or the day-lit gym. Just a few floors above the spa is Izumi restaurant, which serves lunch and dinner on the rooftop terrace during the summer months, providing 360 degree views of the lake, Old City and Alps. In the winter months, Izumi moves to the cozy firelight den just above the spa. A meal at the restaurant is a must for all visiting Geneva, as the views are incomparable. The Michelin-starred Il Lago on the main floor of the restaurant offers excellent seasonal Italian dishes with views of the lake.
