Lanai was the last major Hawaiian island to be colonized and the last to be discovered by tourists. Just nine miles west of Maui but seemingly a world apart, this low-key island beckons with miles of unspoiled beaches, incredible hikes and an excellent resort.

Designing Your Journey
Work with Indagare to design the perfect itinerary for an immersive journey. Our travel experts know the destination inside and out, and they can make recommendations based on your travel needs and preferences.
3 Days: Essential Lanai
Indagare can help you find bliss with a customized itinerary that includes special classes and touring of the island. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.
Relax into your peaceful surroundings with a day at the beach. You can get a change of scenery by moving to a private cabana by the pool, or by participating in such activities as scuba diving and deep sea fishing, or play on the Jack Nicklaus–designed golf course. After dinner, walk back down towards the beach to the resort’s luau lawn and lie back on the grass to take in the stars. Surrounded by the soundtrack of waves and chirping night creatures, you return to that feeling of remoteness and serenity that has drawn travelers to Lanai for so many years.
In the morning, relax by the pool or beach, or visit Hulopoe Bay, a protected marine reserve where you can observe migrating whales and pods of spinner dolphins speeding through the clear water. In the afternoon, visit Lanai City, comprised of a few blocks of colorful wooden houses and small businesses, for lunch and some island shopping. Then, set off on a gentle hike before dinner at an Indagare-recommended restaurant.
Start your day with an adventurous half-day activity. Indagare can arrange a challenging hike, horseback riding and off-roading in 4x4s. A short drive up country from the coast, the climate changes completely. Hiking through the rich rain forest, filled with ironwood, eucalyptus and ginger trees, is a remarkable way to spend a morning. Return to your hotel for some beach lounging and a cabana lunch before an upscale dinner at Nobu, which has a breezy deck with low tables and cushy couches and serves fabulous seafood.
Where To Stay
We only feature hotels that we can vouch for first-hand. At many of them, Indagare members receive special amenities, including upgrades, early check-in, breakfast, spa credits and more. Look for the Indagare Plus logo in the reviews.
