Ho Chi Minh City, which most everyone calls Saigon, is a city that elicits an immediate love-it or hate-it response. It’s much more in-your-face than its serene sister city Hanoi, and unless you have a plugged-in guide, it’s more difficult to access. With a multi billion-dollar public transportation project underway and hip restaurants, hotels and shops turning up on every corner, Ho Chi Minh City continues to grow—and shows no signs of stopping.

  • 3 Days: Essential Ho Chi Minh City

3 Days: Essential Ho Chi Minh City

In Ho Chi Minh, it’s wise to enlist a guide who can explain what you are seeing and keep track of the city’s ever-changing opening hours. It’s also important to hire a driver here, since the main sights are not within walking distance of one another. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • City Exploration

Today, visit some of the city’s most important historic sites such as the Saigon Central Post Office and the Reunification Palace (the South Vietnamese presidential palace) to see where the destinies of so many American and Vietnamese soldiers and civilians were decided. Later, history buffs with an interest in the Vietnam War should tour the sobering War Remnants Museum with a historian.

    • Vietnamese Food

On your second day, get a taste of Vietnamese cuisine and discover the best street food that Ho Chi Minh has to offer all from the back of a vintage Vespa scooter. You will visit the cities’ best street food vendors, Vietnamese-style coffee shops and pubs. Indagare can also organize cooking classes at a culinary institute or in a local family’s home.

    • Beyond Saigon

There are some good half-day trips that Indagare’s team of travel experts can help arrange. Those interested in the Vietnam War can tour the Cu Chi tunnels, the famous network of 155 miles of tunnels used as hideouts, weapons storage, hospitals and the headquarters of the Viet Cong. Note: gGetting inside the tunnels is not for anyone even mildly claustrophobic. Indagare can also arrange a boat tour of the Mekong Delta to get a unique glimpse of life on the river.

Where To Stay

We only feature hotels that we can vouch for first-hand. At many of them, Indagare members receive special amenities, including upgrades, early check-in, breakfast, spa credits and more. Look for the Indagare Plus logo in the reviews.
