Michelin-star chef Bruno Oger who long presided over Cannes’ legendary Villa des Lys has decamped to the sleepy town of Le Cannet, which may only be a ten-minute drive away but feels worlds away. In Le Cannet, Oger purchased an 18th-century farmhouse property that had fallen into disrepair and has transformed it into a gourmet destination with two different restaurants that showcase his cooking, and a charming bar. The most formal of the three is La Villa Archange, a gastronomic temple with seating for only twenty-five and a prix-fixe menu with such sophisticated dishes as frog’s leg cappuccino and a refreshing cinnamon and blood orange sorbet. His light-filled brasserie, Le Bistrot des Anges, which is more casual serves starters like melon with Parma ham or escargot and main courses like a market plate, steamed salmon or Provençal beef tartare.
