Review

Tucked in a courtyard off of Buckingham Gate, the Taj 51 Buckingham Gate is a boutique luxury hotel in a central Westminster location. Elephant statues at the gates hint at the Indian heritage behind the hotel’s brand, and not surprisingly because Taj is the best-known luxury hotel brand in Indian, there are often many Indian guests at the hotel who have come to equate the name with luxury service.

Sharing the courtyard of Victorian-Edwardian townhouses with the property is the Crowne Plaza hotel, which Taj also manages, so guests have access to that property’s multiple restaurants, including one of the best Indian ones in the city, Quilon, but also Banke, which has tables outside in good weather. Some of the suites feel like large apartments, complete with living, dining and library rooms and kitchens. The freshest in feeling are the Falconer Suites with cheery, contemporary interiors and full kitchens. Some of the rooms have not been as recently updated, so you can end up with something sleek and modern or one that feels a bit old fashioned. The service is exceedingly gracious and discreet, so it’s no wonder that the hotel is a retreat for many who prize their privacy.

Who Should Stay

Those who are looking for large apartment-like suites and who do not want a lobby or scene.
