Review

One of the best-kept secrets of super-high-end travel agents, La Réserve is the anti–palace hotel in Paris. It’s not famous, fussy or full of flourishes. Those who find grand-hotel living impersonal or prefer more privacy and discretion, will appreciate La Réserve’s private apartments and its staff, trained at properties like the Crillon and Le Meurice. The Swiss owner of Geneva’s Réserve hotel, Michel Reybler decided he was not alone in wanting a modern luxury-apartment experience when in Paris. So he bought a Belle Epoque town house on the Place du Trocadéro and converted it into ten splendid apartments. Rémi Tessier, who is best known for his sleek yacht interiors, chose a subtle palette of grays and whites and warm woods to create serene spaces that feel at once like safe havens and urban perches, thanks to the incredible view.

A Giorgio Armani aesthetic is evidenced in the fine tailoring, good proportions, beautiful materials and understated chic. All the apartments, ranging from one-bedrooms to four-bedrooms, are slightly different. Some have patios; many are duplexes. One even has a movie theater. Number 1, which has its own entrance, is the largest, with three bedrooms and a large garden where meals can be eaten in good weather. Numbers 1, 3, 5 and 7 occupy the corner with the best view of the Eiffel Tower, seen from their dining areas. The apartments come with 24/7 room service, and have attractive kitchens where the staff prepares breakfast each morning and chefs, including Michelin-starred ones, can be brought in for other meals. A concierge is always on hand, and the daily housekeeper and staff quickly get to know guests, their likes and dislikes. One guest even keeps his own bike here.

Who Should Stay

Those who love contemporary design and the idea of having an apartment in Paris with a five-star staff or who crave serious privacy or want to entertain in an intimate way. If Tom Ford didn’t already have a place of his own in the city, this would be a perfect spot for him.
