Jordan: Legends & Landscapes

Once the crossroads of the caravan routes that linked Wadi Rum with Gaza, Egypt and the Mediterranean, Jordan is home to a number of the world’s most extraordinary ancient and natural sites, including the “Lost City” of Petra, the hallowed banks of the River Jordan, the vast desert of the Valley of the Moon and the healing Dead Sea. The country’s unique combination of outdoor adventure, culture and history—as well as the warm and welcoming locals—make it a destination like no other. Next spring, join Indagare’s Destinations Director John Cantrell for an unforgettable adventure and discover the secrets of this astounding place.

This Journey's Host

After growing up in Kentucky, John has spent most of the years since—thirty and counting—in New York City. As one of Indagare’s founding team members—and as a former magazine editor at Hearst with Melissa Biggs Bradley—he traveled extensively, to such places as Napa, for the wine auction; Cannes, for the film festival; Italy, for a Ferrari driving clinic; and Egypt, to cruise the Nile with Biki Oberoi. “We used to tell thousands of readers at a time what to know about a place and how to enjoy it the most. Now we do that on a family-by-family, trip-by-trip basis—it’s like bringing a story to life, one trip at a time.” Now, John is the Destinations Director for Indagare, sharing his profound expertise across departments. He is one of our most experienced and most beloved Insider Journeys hosts and has scouted in the Middle East many times.
