If you visit www.edenroc-hotel.fr, you cannot resist; book now. For the first time ever, the “Cap” takes credit cards. Arriving on our honeymoon in early June, my husband and I had set the bar high; we wanted beauty, peace, service, spoiling. All the glamour remains, and everything you think you know about l’Hotel du Cap is true: its spectacular (there is no other word) beauty; its discreet service; its place as central spoke on the contemporary Grand Tour. The Eden Roc Grill, by the pool, is now open for dinner, and the food is among the best you will get in the area—simple and fresh, the basics plus sushi which one is hard-pressed to find elsewhere in Cap d’Antibes. The pool, overlooking the ocean, still draws rocks stars, movie stars, and oligarchs but this is part of the charm and branding. As we drove out, Tom, Katie and the Murdochs drove in and we had to laugh: a signal the season had started. One thing I would do when I return is book a suite down by the water, with a water view, and perhaps go in May, or September. Don’t forget to bring Fitzgerald’s Tender Is the Night; reading it you’ll feel a bit less guilty for all the indulgences.
