At a Glance

Thirty years after Malliouhana became the standard-bearer for luxury in the Caribbean, it emerged from a massive renovation as an Auberge Resort in 2014—with a new relaxed sophistication, updated design and major restaurant reboot. In 2019, it further expanded the property's spa, along with added beachfront rooms and a two-bedroom suite. Today, Malliouhana has returned to its roots as an independently run resort.

Review

Upon arrival at Malliouhana, a relaxing spell is cast over guests that remains throughout the stay. Whether it's the stunning ocean views from every location on the property, the warm and welcoming staff or the famous rum punch, there is a sense of serenity that is palpable at this Caribbean classic.

Across 63 guest rooms, there is a quirky mix of British Colonial, Chinoiserie and Art Deco design with contemporary pieces like massive, Rococo mirrors that conceal televisions. The room's sunny color palette of saffron and celadon blue compliments Malliouhana’s best feature: jaw-dropping views of the Caribbean at nearly every turn made possible by its cliffside location. Perhaps the only trade off is that reaching the beaches does require a short walk or golf cart ride—the consolation is the stylish two-tiered infinity pool, with one level for adults and another for families.

While the property has a smaller footprint than some of its counterparts on the island, they do still have a number of amenities to round out a relaxing beach vacation. This includes two tennis courts (and pickleball, too!), a spa with six treatment rooms and infinity pool with ocean views, a full-service salon and garden view fitness center. For those looking to keep active, there is also daily complimentary wellness programming on offer.

Guests can choose from three dining venues onsite, including Celeste for cliffside, fine dining, beachside bites at Leon’s at Meads Bay for laid-back toes-in-the-sand vibes (don’t miss the live music each weekend!) and Bar Soleil, a favorite spot to catch the sunset.

Who Should Stay

Couples and families who enjoy boutique hotels with fantastic ocean views and relaxed nightlife. Guests with mobility issues or who want easier direct access to the sand are better off at Cap Juluca where all the rooms are beachfront. Visitors who prefer a buzzy vibe or the facilities (spa, gym and kid’s club) of a larger hotel should check out the Four Seasons Anguilla.
