Laura Gonzales, the architect and designer behind Hotel Hana, took inspiration from the location of this boutique property, which sits in the second arrondissement in the quarter known as “Little Tokyo.” That she and owner Nicolas Saltiel turned a former office building into a hotel can be seen in the fact that there are only 26 rooms but five room types, all with varying layouts and spread across seven floors. Interiors toe the line between minimalist and sumptuous, with straw walls and lacquered furnishings in a winning dialogue with Pierre Frey fabrics and patterned carpets.
The common spaces include an intimate bar and fine-dining restaurant Hanabi, as well as a small wellness area, with two spa treatment rooms and a petite pool. Thanks to the fact that the hotel was four years in the making, the local interest in it has been strong since it opened—the sexy, dim-lit bar is often packed with a stylish après-work crowd so it never feels like you’re only staying among other tourists. The second arrondissement, Paris’ smallest, has many lesser-known finds, including, of course, the many Japanese restaurants and boutiques on Rue Sainte-Anne, which served as the inspiration of this hotel in the first place (Aki Boulanger is an institution).
