Writes Indagare member Pamela Murdock:

Visas

You can either get one in advance of your arrival or do it at the Luang Prabang Airport. My advice: do it in advance. The day we arrived, three other planes got in at the same time and almost 90 percent of the people didn’t have visas yet. The immigration line was very long and crept forward. On top of this, I’d forgotten to bring the required two passport photos (luckily, this was not a problem and for $1 they just made copies of my passport which took no time). Finally, 1½ hours later we collected our bags. Those few organized people with visas went to a separate counter and got through quickly.

Tip

And a word for those prone to mosquito bites: there were lots of them, especially in the evenings (and really in the summer). Bring bug spray! The good news is Amantaka is well prepared and the bites are small and don’t itch, at least in January when we went.
