Naguib Mahfouz Café
The best place to eat in the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, Naguib Mahfouz Café draws lots of tourists. It is named for the Nobel Prize–winning author of Palace Walk, who reportedly ate here frequently before the attempt assassination made on his life, in 1994. Although it has been taken over by the Oberoi chain (which also manages Mena House), it retains an antiquated charm. The main restaurant, in the back, serves excellent Middle Eastern food. Or you can get coffee or a snack in the front café. Open daily, noon to midnight. Reservations recommended for dinner.
